Services

At A2 Site Investigation we offer a wide range of ground and structural investigation services.

Cable Percussion Drilling

The most common type of drilling in the UK, a cable percussion rig can reach depths of up to 60 meters. Where space and headroom are not limiting factors, the rig can easily be towed into position by a 4x4 vehicle. In ideal conditions, our drillers can complete in excess of 20m drilling with sampling and in-situ testing in one day.

Dynamic Sampling

More commonly known as window or windowless sampling, this small tracked rig is highly suited to confirm shallow ground conditions at several locations in one day. In-situ testing can be undertaken and samples recovered for laboratory testing.

Rotary Drilling

Rotary drilling techniques are suitable for deeper boreholes where the material recovered is undisturbed and most representative of the ground conditions in-situ. Rotary boreholes for geotechnical purposes can be over 100 meters deep but typical projects in London are between 40-60 meters.

Restricted Access Drilling

Our modular cable percussion rigs are ideal for small spaces, restricted head room drilling and areas inaccessible by a traditional cable percussion rig. It can be completely or partially broken down and moved into position by hand, this could be down a set of stairs to a basement or through a narrow doorway. At full height and favourable ground conditions holes of up to 40m depth can be drilled.

Structural Investigations

Our specialist teams are able to provide comprehensive structural investigation services. From routine openings to reveal foundations and steel/masonry elements, to on site geophysical testing, sampling and materials testing.

Trial Pitting

Trial pits can be dug by hand or using machine excavation for a low-cost, relatively fast solution for revealing structural elements and assessing ground conditions and recovering samples for geotechnical and environmental laboratory testing.

Foundation Investigation

Our in-house department can provide support for investigation of existing foundations. Often working in collaboration with our groundworks teams, we are able to recover crucial data to determine potential foundation performance under additional loading.

Laboratory Testing

We work with a number of partner laboratories across the UK to provide a comprehensive range of routine and advanced geotechnical, environmental & materials testing services.

Monitoring Services

Our monitoring team can provide UK wide routine gas and ground water monitoring, sampling and testing, together with more technical vibrating wire, divers and geotechnical instrumentation installation and monitoring.
